My work is the product
of an innovative collage technique. As a first step, I cut-out and
glue six or more variously-shaped layers of colored tissue paper.
Then, I use acrylic paint to add detail. Woodblock stamps, fabrics,
and natural (found) materials are added as desired. Next, I scan
the collage into a color laser printer and manipulate the intensity of
the colors and textures. I do this because tissue paper is neither
permanent nor vivid--but it does lend itself to interesting textural and
color effects--and this step transforms the image into its final form,
adding brilliance and permanency. Since the printing process itself
is used as the final step in the creation of the image these are "original
prints" and not "reproductions". There are no "originals".
Finally, I print the images on hand-cut acid-free art paper. They
are limited-edition, and signed and numbered.
